BROCKHAMPTON continued their excellent start to their Birmingham League Premier Division campaign with a crushing 115-run win over Wolverhampton.

But the villagers had to recover from a poor start when they lost skipper Ben Stebbings for a duck in the early stages.

Chris Boroughs (39) and Oli Cross (21) quickly began the recovery and there were solid contributions from Joe Crichard (40) and Chris Powell (63) in the middle-order before a late flurry from Callum Stewart (40 not out) took the total to 280-9 from their 50 overs.

Boroughs (3-27) and Stewart (2-22) made early breakthroughs in the Wolverhampton reply.

And the visitors were never able to mount a serious recovery against some tight off-spin bowling from former captain Owen Price, who returned 2-19 from an economical 10-over spell. Crichard (2-31) also chipped in with a couple of wickets as Wolverhampton were bowled out for 165.

Eastnor have also made a fine start in their Division Two term as Atiq ur Rehman continued his superb all-round form in a 14-run win over Whitchurch.

After losing early wickets, Eastnor were set on the recovery route by Atiq’s 88.

The overseas star received strong support from Shahid Ahmed (48) and Jabran Khalid as the home side reached 219-7 from their 50 overs.

Their prospects of getting the result they were seeking looked remote, however, as Whitchurch passed the century mark without losing a wicket.

But Atiq was in irrestible form with the ball as he dismissed openers Maisam Jaffri (47) and Omar Ali (66) as he claimed five of the first six batsman, going on to finish with 6-43 as Whitchurch were bowled out for 205 in the 46th over.
