RUSSELL Barnett struck a whirlwind 130 for Bartestree and Lugwardine in an emphatic 218- run win at Barnards Green 3rd in the Worcestershire League.

Barnett completed his century in just 40 balls and faced 51 balls in his swashbuckling knock which included 16 fours and eight sixes.

The hard-hitting batsman arrived at the crease after Ben Simpkin (75) and Luke Sparrow (29) had laid Bartestree’s foundations with a 100-run opening stand.

Bartestree piled up 297-7 in the Division Four clash and then Andrew Jones (7-14) struck with the ball to skittle the Malvern outfit for just 79.

It was also a memorable day for Bartestree second-team players Ollie Robertson (121) and Nick Freeman (100 not out) who set a new second-team opening partnership.

The pair put on 246 runs for the first wicket in Bartestree’s winning draw against Barnards Green 4th in 2nd XI Division Four.

It eclipsed the 185-run record between Richard Fisher and Nigel Shore several years ago. Bartestree reached 291-2.

Burghill and Tillington wicketkeeper Neil Box faces three weeks on the sidelines after dislocating a thumb on a torrid afternoon at Hagley in Division One.

He proved to be the hero, defending his wicket late on, as Burghill picked up a losing draw after reaching 162-9 from 30 overs.

Earlier, on a rain-hit afternoon, Box was injured and Burghill’s bowlers were put to the sword as Ali clattered an unbeaten 120 to lead Hagley to 365-5 declared.

Bromyard suffered a four-wicket defeat with just three balls remaining in an exciting match against Astwood Bank.

Ed Smith (54) and Dinusha Fernando (50 not out) helped Bromyard to 188-9, despite Andrej Jagielski’s 5-67.

Although Matt Morgan bagged 3-45 and Fernando took 2-49, including Herefordshire’s Steve Adshead for 15, Bank edged home.

Skipper James Abel (69) and former Monmouth stalwart Dan Head (67) provided the basis of Colwall’s 252-8 against Coombs Wood in Division Two.

But Matt Colwell frustrated Colwall, striking 110 not out as Coombs Wood replied with 208-3.

Wormelow sealed a comprehensive six-wicket win at Rushwick after Elliott Williams (3-29) and Jamie Banfield (2-61) had restricted the hosts to 190-9.

Australian all-rounder Banfield then made 76 and, backed up by skipper Ben Owens (65), Wormelow romped to the target.

Canon Frome claimed a winning draw against Stone in a tight match in Division Six.

James Fortnam (38) top scored in Frome’s 172-9 and then Nicko Evans (3-20) was influential in keeping Stone to 161-9.

Bruno Warwick snapped up 4-35 and James Tiffen took 3-41 for Ross-on-Wye in their Division Three match with Birlingham.

Ross dismissed Birlingham for 143 and Ross were 6-0 when heavy rain abandoned the match.
