MUCH Marcle kart aces Toby and Ben Davis began their MSA British Superkart Championship with a promising outing at Castle Combe. The brothers, whose exploits were being broadcast live on Motors TV, had one or two difficulties but still came away with impressive results.

Younger brother Ben, 20, took second place on the grid to Toby’s fifth in qualifying. But as the first race got under way, it was Toby, 21, who dived up the inside of reigning champion Paul Platt at turn one to take the lead, with Ben following him through to make it a Davis one-two at the end of the first lap.

A different batch of tyres and higher temperatures seen on the race day were playing havoc with the set-up the brothers had developed over the colder winter and Ben finished in third, with Toby two places behind after a last-lap spin.

Toby had another great start in the second race and leapt to second behind Platt but was in fourth, with Ben fifth, when a red flag stopped the race.

After the restart, Sam Moss and Toby had a battle for a few laps which involved Moss bump-drafting Davis, while Ben was slowly making progress.

Ben moved up past Toby a couple of laps from the end to take fifth place, leaving the brothers to finish in fifth and sixth.

Ben took the prize for third overall in the event, and the fact that Toby led for some time in race one and Ben qualified on the front row leaves the brothers optimistic for the remainder of the season.

The brothers are next in action at Silverstone on June 8 and 9 and are looking to partner a company going forward and can offer excellent opportunities.
