MARDEN’S Sam Pratley staged a one-man resistance as the villagers were beaten by six wickets by Garnons in Division One of the GB Liners Marches League.
Opener Pratley batted through the innings to notch an unbeaten 120, including 19 fours, but none of his team-mates were able to reach double figures as Rob Pritchard (5-34) bowled well.
Alan Jones, who had earlier picked up a couple of wickets, completed a good all-round day by smashing 10 fours and four sixes in an unbeaten 84 to see Garnons home.
Luctonians remain at the top of the table after their match with Weobley, who were unable to raise a side, was called off.
And Crickhowell have moved into second place after an unlikely win over Kington. The Welshmen must have thought their chances of success were remote after being rolled over for 75 after being invited to bat.
Daniel Smith (4-26), Simon Turner (3-8) and Sam Alford (2-38) did the damage for Kington who fared even worse in response. Only skipper Turner (10 not out) reached double figures as Tim Price (5-12) and Nick Francis (4-23) bowled Crickhowell to victory.
Builth Wells, who had beaten Garnons the previous week, disposed of another of the fancied sides by beating Goodrich by 84 runs.
Sam Buckler (90no) starred with the bat for Builth while veteran Rob Wall (4-24) was the pick of the bowlers.
Craig Pigott (7-34) of Presteigne and Dave Bromage (6-38), of Brockhampton 3rd, found outstanding spells of bowling rewarded by victory against Colwall 3rd and Builth Wells 2nd in Division Two.
The best individual score of the day came in Division Three where Tony Beddard of Goodrich 2nd caned the Kington 2nd attack for an unbeaten 134. Nick Layton responded with 110 but his side fell 49 runs short.
