THE steering committee of the potential Hereford United Supporters Trust are hoping for a big turn-out at tonight’s (Thursday’s) open meeting at the Richmond Club.

“We have had around 300 expressions of interest by email and about another 50 in person,” said Bulls fan and Vice-Presidents’ Club secretary Martin Watson, a member of the steering group. “It could be a full house but we won’t know until the night.”

One of those in attendance will be ex-Bull Gareth Davies, who has demonstrated his dedication to the club by taking part in the sponsored walk from Malvern and the cycle ride to Telford.

“At the end of the day, Gareth is a fan like the rest of us,” said Watson. BBC Hereford & Worcester’s sports producer Trevor Owens will chair the meeting which will hear from the steering group, Kevin Rye of Supporters Direct and case studies from the trusts at Newport, Kidderminster and Worcester.

“There will then be a question and answer session followed by a vote on whether to set up a trust,” said Watson.

“The aims of any trust would decided by the membership - there is no set agenda - but the scope of a trust can be quite wide.

“It could range from fundraising to, in the worst-case scenario, rescuing the club.”

The meeting will get under way at 7.30pm.

l CENTRAL defender Stefan Stam has returned to the Netherlands to join Division Two side Den Bosch.

Stam, 33, who joined the Bulls from Yeovil Town in 2011, was a key player last season and played 44 times, scoring three times. In just over two seasons at Edgar Street, he made 80 first-team appearances for United.
