AFTER completing their Hereford Times Herefordshire League Premier Division programme, Sutton United sit at the top of the table with 72 points from their 30 games.
But the fate of the title lies in the hands of Wellington Rangers who trail the leaders by three points but still have two games to play.
Sutton strengthened their hand by winding up their campaign with two victories against other high-flying sides.
Last Tuesday, against third-placed Westfields, the villagers produced a committed display to earn a 3-1 success.
Goals from Patrick Hall and Glen Day put Sutton in control at the interval.
Stuart New cracked in his 51st goal of the season to put the result beyond doubt in the second half before Jamie Cuss claimed a consolation strike for the city side.
On Saturday, Sutton picked up three more important points with a 2-0 success against reigning champions Ewyas Harold.
Day headed over from a New corner in the early stages but Harold were unlucky not to take the lead when Mark Cooper hit a post from a corner.
Robbie Gore twice went close, from a header and then from a free-kick, but Sutton also had their chances and Roy Jordan shot over when well placed just before the interval.
After an even start to the second period, Sutton took the lead when the Harold defence went to sleep at Chris Aspey's quickly-taken free-kick, enabling New to beat goalkeeper Matt Pitt.
Simon Pitt and Dave Hart went close to levelling the scores and Steve Radziejowski was also out of luck when his header from a Rob Cooper Tomkins cross came back off the bar.
Harold continued to push forward in search of a goal and were caught out when they gave away a penalty which New converted to complete the win.
Wellington kept up their bid with a 10-1 demolition of bottom side Weston.
The title-hopefuls were 7-0 ahead at the interval, to give their goal difference a boost, before easing off in the second period.
Keith Jones led the way with five goals and Tom McLean scored twice with the others coming from Tom Herbert, Marcus Jones and Mark Sutton.
Woofferton are certain of a top five finish despite going down 3-2 in their penultimate match at Ledbury Town Reserves.
Although fielding a depleted side, Woofferton dominated the early stages and it came as a surprise when the home side opened the scoring on 25 minutes.
Five minutes later, another defensive mishap allowed Ledbury to double their lead.
An injury to a home player delayed the start of the second period by 50 minutes and Woofferton opened the game up 10 minutes into the half when Chris Breakwell side-footed home a Chris Crabtree cross.
Ledbury were not finished, though, and a home forward latched on to a long ball to round keeper Dave Cooper and fire in the third.
A knee injury to Alan Hogg reduced Woofferton to 10 men in the closing stages but, nevertheless, the visitors reduced arrears in stoppage time when Breakwell rammed home his 30th goal of the season from a corner.
Leominster Town completed what has been a disappointing campaign for them when they went down 4-1 at home to Westfields in their final match.
Daniel Stack gave the home side the lead with a 20-yard drive after only 10 minutes but Tom Williams levelled with a mis-hit cross which sailed into the net from 40 yards.
Mark Mortlock headed in the second form a Jamie Cuss cross and good work from Tom Grabczack and Ian Morris then set up Zbigniew Nowicki for the third before Lucas Jodba rounded off the win.
