LOOKING back on the season as a whole, the first target was to make sure we did not struggle, avoid getting involved in any relegation battle and preserve our hard-won Football League status.
This we achieved and there were some outstanding performances and results at some of the bigger clubs in the league.
But my over-riding memory will be the last couple of months when there has to be a lot of disappointment about the way we performed.
It was not all bad - we put on a good show at Hartlepool and against Swindon at home when we should have taken all three points.
But there were some bitterly disappointing performances from individual players and collectively as a side.
The main malaise was our lack of goals, that is plain for everyone to see.
The statistics don't lie. We didn't have a single player in double-figures in league matches and although you look to your strikers to provide the bulk of the goals, defenders go up for set-pieces and over the course of the season we would have expected to have got more from them.
So it is obvious that we need some fairly radical changes this closed season.
These days, there is no such thing as a retained list. Power shifted to the players many years ago - all clubs can do is make an offer to a player who has a month to decide whether to accept or move on.
In the Conference, contracts finished at the end of the season and any player out of contract who did not want to sign just did not get paid.
Football League regulations mean that we pay until the end of June. A player not fixed up by then gets a further month's severance pay which gives them the power to sit and await offers from other clubs.
I have been talking to individual players and agents of our players for some time without any final conclusion.
It is disappointing and certainly a distraction from what should have been taking place on the field.
But now it is all over, we can look closely at it and make one or two decisions ourselves.
We need some fresh faces in for next season and we have a wish-list. We are not so naive that we don't believe that we will have to go well down that list before finally getting someone to sign for us.
It has been interesting, with some highlights, and I would like to take the opportunity to thank supporters, especially those who have followed us all around the country.
The biggest issue is that we remain a league club.
