WITH few significant tournaments of their own, the Welsh contingent certainly made their mark on Ledbury Charity Sevens last Sunday, with the final between strong Welsh Wanderers and Bridgend.
Player of the tournament was Richard Musto of Wanderers who won the final 36-12.
Despite the withdrawal of several teams at very short notice, all the teams involved braved appalling conditions as the rain got heavier as the day wore on.
The standard of play generally was very high, however, and the surface of both pitches used remained superb throughout.
Hartpury pulled off a surprise victory over last year's winners Samurai in the group stages, while Ledbury 1st made Army work hard for their victory.
Ledbury 1st ran Apache close in the Plate final, and will rue the unforced errors that allowed Apache back into the game.
In the cup, Hartpury ran out of steam, and the Army team struggled with the conditions, allowing Wanderers to storm into the final and beat Bridgend with ease.
