COLWALL avenged a one-run defeat last year at the hands of Astwood Bank with a comprehensive 71-run victory when the sides met at Stowe Lane in the second round of the National Village Champ-ionship.
Tom Wolfendale (46) played some sparkling shots to get the Colwall innings off to a solid start. With Peter Butler, James Wagstaff, Tim Riley, Luke Ledbury and Charlie Griffiths all passing 20, they finished on 202, always likely to be a testing target on a wicket devoid of pace.
Astwood struggled against the spin of Griffiths (3-15) and Wagstaff (5-20) in reply and the game looked to be finishing when the score reached 63-8.
But Boycott and Harris offered spirited late resistance to take the score to 131 before the home side wrapped up the win.
Eastnor earned a third round home tie against Belbroughton after seeing off Chaddesley Corbett by 81 runs.
Eastnor made a steady start after electing to bat through Jim Sandford (10) and Ishtiaq (13) who posted 32 for the first wicket.
Good batting by Adeel, who returned to form with 76, and Josh Emery (47) in a 75-run stand kept the score mounting.
Steve Hughes (18) and Nick Bollen (11) also made useful contributions as the home side's innings closed on 212.
Chaddesley opened brightly to reach 36 without loss but soon subsided to 40-5 with Shahid (3-15) starring as the Eastnor bowlers got to work.
A middle-order rally saw M Webster (28) and M Yardley (32) add 64 before both fell to Sandford (2-25) and Ishtiaq then came on to wrap up the tail with a spell of 3-18 as the visitors were all out for 131.
