PLENTY of shuttles were flying around Heywood Sports Centre last Sunday when Wyedean Badminton League held their junior tournament.
With 60-plus competitors and almost 150 matches, players from schools and clubs across the district had a busy day competing for singles and doubles titles at under-14, 16 and 19 level. Monnow carried off the team title with 38 points, 10 ahead of Heywood School. Last year's winners Ross finished third with 20.
Laura Simmonds from Heywood won both under-16 singles and doubles titles, with partner Laura Brain, while Richard Tullet from Ross achieved the same feat in the boys' event with partner Will Gooch.
Dene Magna claimed the under-14 girls singles final where Anna Smith beat Beth Williams and were also runners-up in both the under 14 boys singles and doubles.
