WELLINGTON Rangers have enjoyed a season to remember in the Hereford Times Here-fordshire League, carrying off two of the top prizes.
The club came through on the rails to take the Premier Division title and completed a double by winning the Strongbow Senior Cup.
But spare a thought for Sutton United who, despite losing just three games in the last two seasons, have ended up in runners-up position on both occasions.
Widemarsh Rangers emulated their Wellington counterparts with a double success, carrying off the Division 1 title and the HFA Junior Cup while Fownhope Reserves made it two championships in successive years after carrying off the Division 2 title.
Not to be outdone in the double' stakes, the villagers also won a cup competition, defeating neighbours Holme Lacy to win the HFA Burghill Cup.
And to complete the Saturday doubles, there was also a twin success for the Division 3 winners Bartonsham who marked their first season in the Hereford Times Hereford-shire League by also collecting the Frank Peterson Cup.
Bartonsham did, however, have to overcome a late scare before they were assured of clinching the Division 3 title.
They had believed they were home and dry until the league ordered the final game of the season between Pegasus Colts and Holme Lacy to be replayed.
Holme Lacy had won the original game 4-1 but had fielded ineligible players.
Pegasus went into the game knowing that they needed a win to wrest the title from Bartonsham's grasp but were only able to force a 2-2 draw with goals from Petr Nazerilik and Stuart Jones, allowing Bartonsham to become champions on goal difference.
Although Marden were beaten in the final of the Wye Guild Cup, the villagers ensured that the double trend extended into Sunday football when they triumphed in the Jewson Herefordshire Sunday League Premier Division and the Premier Division Cup.
Newcomers Sinkum, who went through their debut season without losing a match, completed a league and cup double in Division 2, beating city rivals Moorfields in the final of the cup competition before clinching the Division 2 South title.
While it was a tough season for many of the local clubs in regional competition, there was joy for Presteigne who, after several years of trying, carried off the Spar Mid Wales League title.
Skipper Adie Bennett and his predecessor Scott Hodgetts, who has now left the area due to work commitments, were on hand to collect the championship trophy.
In the Sport Italia Hellenic League Premier Division, Pegasus Juniors enjoyed a late-season revival which helped them to avoid relegation.
Ross Town, however, had to endure a dismal campaign which brought them just a solitary win as they finished at the foot of the table for the second successive season.
In the West Midlands League, Wellington, who will doubtless be seeing a number of changes over the summer after the resignations of manager Wyn Owen his assistant Tony Gwynne as well as the departures of a clutch of senior players, finished in a creditable mid-table position.
County rivals Bromyard Town and Ledbury Town took their relegation battles right to the wire before both enjoyed good form at the end of the season to ensure that they will both be Premier Division clubs next time.
