BROMYARD captain Zahid Saeed led his side to second place in Division 1 of the Crusader Worcestershire County league with a narrow one-wicket home win over Chaddesley Corbett.

After winning the toss and electing to field, he ripped through the visitors' top order, taking a hat-trick and claiming a fourth wicket two balls later.

After Chaddesley recovered to post a total of 174, he then top-scored with 44 as his side edged home in a tense finish.

Saeed's early burst left the visitors reeling at 7-4, and he finished with 5-53 off 15 overs as Chaddesley went to 38 overs.

Saeed came in at 25-1 and batted sensibly with more than 60 overs available, making 44 off 86 balls before perishing at 118-4 but two were still required when the ninth wicket went down. James Hine (10 not out), who hit a four to win the match, and Matt Long held their nerve.

Brockhampton dropped to sixth place after suffering their first defeat of the season, going down by eight wickets at Droitwich after struggling to score runs.

They were restricted to 127-9 in their 50 overs, the home side knocking the runs off inside 35 overs.

Ashley Nahorniak (24) and David Mokler (13) put together a patient opening partnership of 36. Chris Boroughs (12) and Henry Langford (22) found runs equally hard to come by and Stuart Jennings (17 no) was the only other batsman to reach double figures.

Adam Hewlett claimed an early wicket when Droitwich batted, but the home side cantered home.

It was left to injured skipper Jim Sandford to face the final deliveries and stave off defeat as Eastnor swapped places with Bewdley at the foot of the table.

The villagers were forced to hang on chasing a Bewdley target of 209-7 and finished on 153-9, four runs short of claiming the losing draw points.

Faisal (5-56) was once again the pick of the Eastnor bowlers, but Shahid at least stemmed the flow of runs, bowling his 15 overs for just 30.
