KINGSLAND moved into third place in the Tarmac League with a single shot win in their home match against Hay.

The match was closely contested all the way with both clubs taking a seven-shot winning rink.

But the eight-shot margin achieved by John Culver's rink for Kingsland was just enough to tilt the balance their way, even though rink honours were shared with both clubs taking points on two rinks.

The top two clubs, Kington and St Martin's, were without fixtures and retained their places.

But they meet this week when the winner should establish a clear lead.

Currently, with the top four clubs all having won three matches, positions are decided by rink bonus points.

Further down the table, Castle Green picked up their first win to move off the bottom.

A solid three rinks to one victory at home to Brimfield saw them pick up 14 points despite the match being decided by only nine shots.

The day's best performance came from Alec Carter's rink for Castle Green who outscored the visitors' rink by a two-to-one margin in a 23-11 win. But Brimfield held two rinks to only two and three-shot deficits and Harry Millichamp's rink's nine-shot win was not enough to affect the outcome.

Wellington suffered a heavy 32-shot home defeat at the hands of Hereford who picked up seven rink points.

The experienced Hereford team used the skills borrowed from the winter indoor game to play on Wellington's artificial surface and their success was led by a runaway 30-9 win by M Ricketts' rink. Wellington forced a draw on one rink skipped by Geoff Jones.

Results: Kingsland 69 Hay on Wye 68 (home rinks W2 D0 L2), Castle Green 71 Brimfield 68 (W3 D0 L1), Wellington 59 Hereford 91 (W0 D1 L3).
