BROMYARD captain Zahid Saeed led from the front as Bromyard successfully chased down a big total to beat Droitwich Spa at Flaggoners Green in Division 1 of the Crusader Worcestershire County League.

He scored an unbeaten century as the home side passed their target of 277 for the loss of six wickets with just two balls to spare.

Saeed took an early wicket when Droitwich batted first but, from this point on, it was hard work for the bowlers, just five more wickets falling to them. James Hine claimed two of these to reduce Droitwich to 79-3, before Jono Boult (87) and Damon Gariff (90 no) both scored at better than a run a ball to take the score after 50 overs to 276-4.

Ashley Bullock and Oliver Bailey (34) gave Bromyard a dashing start with an opening stand of 69. Owen Thomas was run out fourth ball, the first of four to perish in this way, including Bullock (76) but not before he had helped his skipper take the score to 191.

Wickets were conceded in the search for quick runs at the back end of the innings, but Saeed held his nerve, finishing on 116 (off 97 balls with 12 fours and four sixes).

Brockhampton bounced back from the previous week's first defeat of the season to inflict a heavy loss on struggling local rivals Eastnor. They bowled the home team out in the 49th over for 140, and then cruised to a six-wicket victory with plenty in hand.

Eastnor made a cautious start against the Brockhampton seam attack. They lost an early wicket to a run out, but then Nick Bollen (17) and Adeel (19) took the score to 40 when both were dismissed in quick succession.

Josh Emery (51) batted sensibly before becoming one of Adam Hewlett's three victims. No other home batsmen was capable of making a big total, and Chris Boroughs (4-44 off 18 overs) blew away the tail as the batsmen chased quick runs. Dave Price (2-39) was the other wicket taker.

Facing a small total, Brockhampton made a cautious start but had taken the score to 41 in the 14th over when Emery dismissed Stuart Jennings (15). All-rounder Boroughs (17) joined opener Ashley Nahorniak (40) to take the score towards three figures before both were dismissed by Faisel (2-29).

Henry Langford (33 not out) steered the visitors home to boost their league position near the head of the league but leave their opponents rooted to the foot of the table.
