FIVE City of Hereford water polo players returned home from a highly successful North Sea Cup tournament in Dublin.

Representing Wales at Under-17 level, Millie Boucher captained a ladies side containing fellow Herefordians Megan Jones, Erin Jones and Jojo Rickards.

The team started with a routine 11-4 victory over Ireland and then played tournament favourites Denmark.

In a game that ebbed and flowed, Wales came from behind to win 12-10, sealing the tournament title with one game to go.

The team then finished the clean sweep by beating Scotland 14-10.

In the under 17 men's tournament, Wales started as favourites and had an opening win against hosts Ireland 8-4, but only managed a 10-10 draw against Denmark.

Everything rested on the final game but Wales were too strong for Scotland running out 14-7 winners.

This was the first time Wales had won both Under 17's tournaments.

Meanwhile, back at home, the remainder of the Hereford and Worcester junior side are nearing the end of the Midland League season and are currently in fifth place.

Having played all of their home games in Worcester, the team will play their final league game at Hereford Leisure Pool at 4.45pm this Saturday against Solihull.

This is a welcome return for the sport to Hereford, with the last competitive fixture taking place more than 20 years ago.
