RAIN played havoc with the cricket programme last Saturday.

Many games were abandoned without a ball being bowled, others were called off after brief play, and just a few were played to a conclusion.

Both of Kington's fixtures in Division 3 of the Birmingham and District League, the firsts at home to St George's and the seconds away to Berkeswell, were called off early.

In Division 1 of the Crusader Worcestershire County League the local derby fixture between Bromyard and Eastnor at Flaggoners Green was started, but failed to reach halfway.

For once, Eastnor batted first and appeared to be moving into a strong position, despite a couple of rain interruptions. They had reached 118-1 after 28 overs, with Faisal and Atiq both passing the 50 mark, just before the abandonment.

Brockhampton's home game with Pershore was called off in its infancy, the visitors making 2-0 during a brief visit to the wicket.

Brockhampton have been boosted ahead of this week's clash with leaders Redditch by the return of overseas player Mahmood Malik.

The paceman took 77 wickets in his previous season with the club, helping them to promotion from Division 2.

The Division 2 fixture between Luctonians and Monmouth at Mortimer Park was called off without a ball being bowled.

Wormelow, meanwhile, must have wished their game had been called off as they picked up zero points at Kennel Field in a nine-wicket defeat by Oldswinford.

Wormelow lost the toss and were invited to bat but only youngsters Matt Evans (27) and Tim Boulter (25) passed the 20 mark as the villagers were bowled out for a disappointing 122.

With the ever-present threat of storms, the visitors wasted no time in racing to their target with Asa Robinson crashing six fours and five sixes as he sped to an unbeaten 77 from only 44 balls.

James Holloway (35 not out) also batted well as Oldswinford cruised home in 17.2 overs.

In Division 3 Colwall and Old Vigornians showed great patience, but again failed to reach the midpoint and had to settle for a few extra bonus points.

Colwall batted first on a very wet wicket and were soon in trouble at 33-4.

Gareth Breakwell (22), Tim Riley (35) and Pete Butler (84, including 23 off one over) put them in a decent position between the storms, but in the end the weather had the final say when the heavens opened immediately after Colwall declared on 186-9 off 46 overs.

The two matches in Division 4 South reached a conclusion and are reported separately.

The second team games between Oldswinford and Wormelow and Eastnor and Lye in Division 2, plus Old Vigornians v Colwall in Division 3 were all called off prior to the start.
