ONLY a handful of Flint & Cook Marches League matches survived the damp conditions and Division 4 side Bishop's Frome probably wished that it had rained even harder over East Herefordshire after being shot out for just 18.

None of their players reached double figures with O James top-scoring with five as the villagers were dismissed for their lowest ever league score.

Chris Palmer (4-7) was the most successful of the Lads Club bowlers but he received excellent support from the experienced duo of Barry Oldman, who took 3-6 from 10.4 overs, and Ashley Oliver (2-4).

Lads Club lost skipper Chris Price early in their reply but Bryan Caffelle (14 not out) wasted no time in guiding the city side to their win.

They required just four overs to reach their target and got there just as the rain began to set in again.

It was a good day all-round for Lads Club whose second team recorded a 101-run over Shire Bulls in Division 5.

Shaun Gallagher (50) and Mike Olive (45) were in good form with the bat as Lads Club reached 183-8 from their 45 overs.

Only Chris Breeze (10) reached double figures for Shire Bulls who were shot out for 82 by Matt Hancock (4-14), Gareth Bowley (3-8), Gallagher (2-17) and Olive (1-26).

Also in Division 5, Bromyard 3rd beat Herefordians Bishop's by 31 runs.

Nathan Godsall (43) and James Bagley (37) led the way for Bromyard 3rd whose total was boosted to 212-9 by 64 extras.

S Morris (49) and S Bell (32) both batted well for Herefordians but, in the end, they fell just short.

In Division 3, a stylish 78 by Johnny Daw set Hay on their way to a 39-run win over visiting Bosbury.

Daw received good support from Rhydian Evans-Bevan (19), Peter Lloyd (21), Joe Provis (21 not out) and Yorkie Anderson (36 not out) as the home side progressed to 189-3 from their 45 overs.

Tight bowling and fine fielding ensured that Bosbury were always struggling in reply and the visitors side ended well short of their target.

In Division 2, skipper Peter Gale (85) led the way as Marden improved their promotion prospects with a 51-run success against Colwall 3rd in a game reduced to 25 overs a side.

Gale cracked seven fours and three sixes in his fine innings, receiving useful support from Mike Williams (36) and Mark Breedon (14) as Marden reached 157-4.

After a strong start, Colwall lost wickets regularly in reply and rarely looked like reaching their target.

An excellent all-round display from Ben Simpkin was not enough to save Bartestree & Lugwardine from defeat at Crickhowell in the only only Division 1 game to beat the deluge.

With Simpkin posting 59, Dean Smith chipping in with 55 and Russell Barnett adding 35, Bartestree posted a competitive 191-7 from their 45 overs.

Nick Francis took 2-38 and was also in good form with the bat with his 59 and Mike Coles' 58 ensuring that Simpkins' fine spell of 5-31 was in vain as the home side took up the challenge and reached their target for the loss of seven wickets with four overs to spare.
