LEOMINSTER'S fine unbeaten run in the Tarmac Bowls League was brought to a halt when they visited reigning champions Kington and went down by 10 shots.

Leominster's challenge was spearheaded by the rink skipped by John Harris who came off the green with a 25-10 victory. But the remaining Leominster rinks were unable to keep up the momentum and Kington's other three rinks gained comfortable wins.

Five days earlier, Leominster picked up the match points and the bonus points for two winning rinks against Castle Green when they gained an eight-shot win.

But Leominster had to thank Ray Walker's rink for the win with a 23-9 victory. Castle Green's best reply was led by Alan Hardy's rink with a nine-shot win, but Fred Williams' rink completed the win for Leominster with a six-shot win.

Previously in a busy week, Leominster took on Wellington on their artificial surface and came away with an all rinks victory led by Brian Cade's rink with a 16-shot win.

John Edwards' Wellington rink came closest to preventing a maximum points haul, eventually going down 20-19 to John Harris' Leominster rink.

Kington's win over Leominster kept them in top spot but closely followed by St Martin's after their 16 points home win over Wellington.

The visitors started well with two rinks holding the advantage. By the 14th end Pat Ellis' St Martin's rink were trailing 17-7 and looking at a heavy defeat. But they scored 17 shots without reply on the last seven ends to record an unlikely 24-17 win.

John Edwards' rink produced the best Wellington effort in a bid to to avoid a second successive 16-point loss. They were 11-3 down at the half-way point and then came back to within two shots at the 17th end at 17-15 before finally losing by four shots.

Weobley celebrated their first home match for seven years with a three-rink win over Hereford on their newly-opened green.

Castle Green climbed to within a point of Kingsland in the table when they pulled off an 11-shot win at their rivals' headquarters.

Colin Reading's Castle Green rink provided the decisive result with an 18-shot win.
