THE sport has a saying that it's never too late to take up golf.

And that has certainly been the case with Ross-on-Wye member Betty Spacey who achieved a hole in one just two weeks after her 80th birthday.

Betty, who only took up the game at the age of 65, aced at the seventh hole at Ross when playing with her husband, Peter, and Andrew and Julia Rollings in a club social competition.

She took her rescue club to the tee of the par-three hole and her shot fell short of the green but rolled on before dropping into the cup.

Betty's success continued for the ladies' C team when she partnered Anne Crocker to a win in a halved match against Burghill Valley.

The B team also had a close match against Brickhampton, winning 5-4, while the A team halved with Cirencester.
