TWO members of Radnor and West Hereford Pony Club have qualified for the national finals following a great outing in Monmouth.
Lucy Austin and Becky Wreyford competed against a very strong field of pony clubbers from as far afield as Carmarthen, Warwickshire and Buckinghamshire in triathlon, static shooting, swimming and running.
Lucy, who attends Hereford Cathedral School, claimed a top shoot with a score of 940 out of 1000, while St Mary's High School pupil Becky was third.
In the swim, Lucy smashed her personal best time over nine-and-a-half lengths in three minutes before winning the run.
Lucy finished first overall in the competition, while Becky came in sixth.
They will now both represent Area 10 of the Pony Club at the National Championships at Milton Keyes.
"They both have very much a modern day 'this girl can approach as they also compete in pentathlon events with laser shooting and epee fencing," said Pentathlon Hereford's Rachel Wreyford.
"Lucy is on the English Talent Programme for pentathlon and Becky competes for Wales at fencing.
"They both train extensively, covering swimming, running, shooting (laser and pellet), fencing (epee) and riding (dressage, show jumping and cross country).
"They have both been national podium success stories and continue to dream of gaining a Great Britain tracksuit."
