HEREFORD Rowing Club had good reason to celebrate after winning a dozen events at Llandaff Regatta at the weekend.
On Saturday, the course was scheduled to be held over 1,000 metres downstream on the River Taff but had to be shortened to 500 metres due to the extreme flow caused by the previous week's rainfall.
Hereford's first win came from the senior 2 coxed four of Mike Gardener, Nige Birch, Kel Currah and Andrew Osborne, coxed by Charlie Stewart.
The crew proved to be too powerful for the competition in both of their races on the day with convincing wins over Bristol Ariel and Bewdley in the final.
Talented young sculler Alex Deutsch also won the junior 18 singles in a closely fought battle against fellow club member Jamie Coombes.
Chris Honey won at senior 4 status and Sean Blake won at junior 16 level in their single scull races in newly purchased boats, both generously funded by the Herefordshire Youth Opportunities Fund and Youth Capital Fund.
The Sunday course was again held over 500 metres which proved to be justified as the river level rose again due to torrential rain throughout most of the day.
But the bad weather failed to dampen the spirits of the Hereford crews who doubled their tally of wins.
The senior 2 coxed four won again, this time over crews from Monmouth and a slightly altered Bristol Ariel.
Sean Blake won again in his junior 16 single sculls, as did Alex Deutsch in the junior 18.
Single scullers Mike Gardener and Nigel Birch teamed up to win in their senior 2 coxless pairs.
Alex Deutsch and Jamie Coombes won in the junior 18 double sculls, while novice sculler Will Lort won his event to gain promotion to senior 4 status.
The junior 15 coxed quad of Tom Fenton, Ed Deutsch, Nathan Collins and Jordan Lloyd, coxed by Caitlin Bissell, performed impressively and won their event, while Holly Airbright won the women's junior 16 single sculls over club-mate Katie Llewellin in a tight final.
