HEREORD were crowned Evo-Stik Southern Premier champions following an assured 1-0 victory over Biggleswade Town.
Jennison Myrie-Williams was brought down inside the box for the second time in as many matches and Rob Purdie dispatched the penalty.
Dara O’Shea and Jordan Liburd were our joint men of the matches after a composed performance by the young pairing.
Match ratings:
Puddy 7- A couple of reassuring takes which took pressure off his defence. Made a couple of saves but never really tested. Had a moment when the opposition thought he had carried the ball out of the box but the referee was unmoved.
Oates (c) 7- Kept the back four steady and didn’t push forwards as much as he has in recent weeks.
Pring 7- Was beaten all ends up by his man early on and gave away a free-kick but apart from that once a solid performance. Also had an effort wide early in the game.
Richards 7- Showed his touch of brilliance with a long range effort which just flew wide with the goalkeeper back pedalling.
O'Shea 8- Despite being a young defensive pairing kept the visitors very quiet all game and a very reassuring defensive line.
Liburd 8- Another commanding performance with solidly heading away balls into the box. Whenever under pressure he just made it look easy in clearing.
Reffell 7- Played his part in a good team performance but was quite in parts.
Purdie 8- Smashed home the winning penalty to seal the tie. His deliveries into the box were once again very good and waiting to be attacked.
Smith 7- Showed signs of his keenness which has seen him become the starting forward. Struggled to make ground on a decent defence. Was replaced by Symons after 67 minutes as Pete Beadle looked to tighten the defence.
McGrath 7- Made his first start in a Hereford shirt since injury and had a solid game.
Myrie-Williams 8- Had joy on the right hand side early in the game causing the full-back all manner of problems all night. Earned his side a penalty for the second match running when he turned inside the box and was brought down. Ran through one-on-one and saw his effort saved.
Subs:
Symons 8- Came on for Smith and almost had an immediate impact shooting on the turn after controlling a long kick. Had another chance to score as the ball pinged around the box. Did his main job well in holding the ball up.
