A LEOMINSTER kickboxer who has dreams of turning professional has just clinched a Midlands title at the first attempt.
Bo Holmes has been training at GP Martial Fitness in Leominster for the last five years and competing for the last three.
Holmes impressed during previous contests at the The Professional Kickboxing Associations Fight Night 5 and 6 winning all of his fights.
After turning 18 earlier this year Holmes was given the opportunity to fight for his first Midlands title in the light weight category 62 kilogrammes at the Goldmine Centre in Walsall.
Standing in his way was Morgan Crisp and the fighters were evenly matched doing the same amount of work in the opening two rounds.
In round three Holmes managed to up the kick content which just edged the contest and the referee awarded him the victory.
Coach Glenn Parry said: "He will probably defend the belt at the next event which might be in November but he really wants to push it and fight further.
"He needs to get a bit older and bigger but he wants to push as high as he can into the professional ranks. He is fit and works hard so he can go on."
Also fighting at the Fight Night 7 was 14-year-old Lewis Kinder who has been training at the Leominster club since the age of seven.
He took part in three rounds of White Collar Kickboxing against 16-year-old Tom Bowen from Temple Martial Arts Longbridge.
Despite giving away a two years age advantage and a huge difference in height and reach Kinder managed to get inside of his opponent and took a points victory.
"Lewis is as keen as mustard and is going for his black belt in October," added Parry.
"He is only 14 so before he can fight for a title he needs to be an adult so he has got a wait and progress."
Both lads train at GP Martial Fitness Leominster under the guidance of coaches Parry, Owen Armstrong and Luke Jones. The gym is currently looking at extending in partnership with South Wye Police Boxing to include a boxing ring.
