A CLUB which helps youngsters proser in horse riding across the county is celebrating its 90th birthday this weekend.
The Pony Club will be celebrating its birthday on Saturday (August 3) with a host of activities across the country.
The North Herefordshire, South Hereford and Ross Harriers Pony Clubs will be joining for a ride in the River Wye at Caradoc followed by a picnic tea to mark the occasion.
District Commissioner Caroline Queen said: "We have teams competing in the Pony Club show jumping competition at the Gatcombe Festival of British Eventing, as well as our mounted games team who are competing in the main arena. All of our riders there will be part of the Pony Club Parade with members from all over the country joining together for a presentation to Princess Anne for her ongoing support of the Pony Club."
The North Herefordshire branch of The Pony Club welcomes new members of any age from two to 24 years old and there is something on offer for everyone.
Mrs Queen said: "The little ones have a three day camp in August and there's still time to join up for that.
"The older ones have just had a week at camp where they've received tuition in flatwork, show jumping, cross country and much more."
The Pony Club offers non-riding membership with no pony required and it's great for those who would enjoy doing Pony Club Triathlon (run, swim, shoot).
Mrs Queen added: "Our members are successfully out representing the branch in Dressage, Eventing, Show Jumping, Tetrathlon, Mounted Games, and Horse and Pony Care, aiming for the Pony Club Championships at Cholmondely Castle. We also appreciate that competitive riding is not for everyone and some of our members prefer the camaraderie of regular get togethers with their friends for riding lessons from our very talented instructors."
