TWO teenagers proved they are among the best young athletes in the country when they competed at the English Athletics Group Championships.
Dylan Menhennet won a gold medal in the hammer while Charlotte Colbert received a silver for her performance in the javelin.
The event in Bedford was for under 17s and under 15s and also involved the best athletes from the rest of the UK and Ireland.
Menhennet, a student at John Kyle High School, took gold in the under 15s boys hammer and is now ranked first in the UK for his age group.
Meanwhile, Colbert – a pupil at St Mary’s High School – competed in the under 15s girls javelin and hammer.
She threw her way to second place for javelin, a mere 12cm behind first place. Later in the day she went on to throw a big personal best for hammer coming in fifth place and is currently placed sixth for hammer and third for javelin in the UK rankings.
Eva Tyler, from Whitecross School, also competed at the championship. The Hereford and County Athletics Club member ran her third best time of the year in U15 Girls 200 metres, while George Harrhy, from John Kyle High School, finished seventh in his heat in the U17s 400m hurdles.
