A TRIO of county boxers have been crowned Midlands Counties Boxing Champions.
South Wye Police Boxing Academy pairing Rhiannon Roberts and Othman Said were joined by Hereford Boxing Academy junior fighter David Smith in winning the titles last weekend.
All three will now will box in the National England Boxing Championships in the bid to win a national crown.
Academy boxer Roberts was in the 69 kilogrammes category and the teacher, from Hereford, did the club proud by winning the Midlands title.
Meanwhile team-mate Othman Said increased his own and the club's growing reputation by adding a second senior title for the club.
Hereford Boxing Academy fighter David Smith also came away with the Midlands crown in the junior 54 kilogrammes category.
Smith boxed a tough fighter from Solihull ABC in the final. The Academy boxer outfought his opponent throughout all the rounds.
The Solihull fighter was strong and hit out with strong shots, but Smith was equal to the challenge and simply outclassed his opponent by using his slick footwork and not wasting any shots.
Smith will now box in the National England Boxing Championships on Sunday in the pre-quarters in Stoke-On-Trent.
Hereford’s Josh Smith also boxed in the pre-quarters Development Championships, but didn’t get the decision on the day.
Meanwhile, after being crowned National Champion last year for South Wye Police Boxing Academy Yusuf Abdallah will be taking on the Elite category later this year after having over 20 fights.
