WESTFIELDS got their FA Cup campaign off to a dream start with a 2-0 victory over Brocton.
In their first competitive fixture of the season Fields were always in control of the extra preliminary round tie, scoring twice in the opening 10 minutes.
Keanu Cooper fired them ahead with a great finish from eight yards after just four minutes.
Six minutes later Cooper was on the spot again when he powerfully headed home a Richard Greaves cross to give Fields the early two-goal advantage.
At the other end Brocton came more into the game and a brilliant goal-line clearance by Paul Hurrell prevented the visitors from pulling a goal back. Just before the break Steven Sarkodie when under pressure dropped a high cross and as the ball bobbled around again Hurrell made a saving tackle to ease the pressure. Westfields now go through to the preliminary round of the FA Cup with a home tie against Whitchurch Alport on Saturday, September 12, at allpay.park, kick-off 3pm.
This Saturday Westfields play another pre-season friendly when they host visitors Wellington at allpay.park, kick-off 3pm.
Meanwhile Wellington were knocked out of the FA Cup following a 2-0 defeat at Gresley Rovers.
Wellington suffered a major blow after nine minutes losing centre-back Joe Davies to a nasty fracture and dislocation of his upper arm.
Despite this Sam Pearson had an effort hit the post while Paul Jones saw his effort cleared off the line.
Gresley responded taking a 75th minute lead through a Louis Briscoe header before Andrew Westwood doubled their lead late on.
