LEOMINSTER Hockey Club got their new seasons off to a perfect start with their men and women taking victories.
In their first ever game in The Verde Recreo Hockey League Championship the men ran our 4-2 victors over Old Bristolians.
Jack Rowsell scored a brace while Jonty Goodey and Nicko Evans also found the net.
Meanwhile, their women's side headed to Blockley for their opening West Clubs' Women's League North Division tie.
On a wet and blustery morning in Chipping Camden the visitors started off strongly two early goals from Lilly Connop, following two fast break away runs down the left.
A switch around of play and break away run from Blockley allowed them their first goal.
After a constructive team talk at the break, Leominster started the second half fighting.
Jody Owen scored a great goal to restore their two-goal advantage.
Nina Emery then opened up the defence before passing to an unmarked Ali Parker who slotted a perfectly positioned goal in the bottom right corner to take Leominster up to a 4-2 lead.
Jodie Coombs also scoring a very similar goal soon after.
With 15 minutes left on the clock, Leominster remained calm but unfortunately Blockley came back and scored, to take it to 5-3.
Towards the last few minutes of the game, Blockley struggled to withstand the pressure from Karen Hackley and Emery who worked as a pair on both occasions, to secure a goal each to complete the 7-3 win for Leominster.
League rivals Hereford women also got their league campaign off to a good start with a 3-1 home win over Bretforton.
