HEREFORD Pegasus Ladies took city bragging rights as they knocked Westfields Women out of the Herefordshire FA Women’s County Cup 3-2.
Both sides returned to competitive action after a long break.
It was Pegasus who started freshest with Elle Williams and Sarah Bishop both scoring to give them a 2-0 lead at the break.
Westfields responded with Maddie Fox’s shot saved into the path of Jessica Kenny to pull a goal back for the hosts.
However, Pegasus were out of sight when Roxana Dinescu ran through on goal to score a third.
Katie Young did score a second Westfields goal but in the dying moments the hosts failed to find a way back into the tie.
“We started slowly and our intensity was not up to scratch,” said Westfields Women’s manager Ben Archer.
“We didn’t keep the ball and Pegasus were stronger starting with an early goal and then went 2-0 ahead before the break.
“After half-time we had a better response to what we had in the first half.
“We played a lot better, move the ball around quicker and became the more dominant team.
“We got a goal back and then a lapse in concentration allowed Roxana through to make it 3-1.
“That killed the game off really. We got a second goal back which made for an interesting last 10 minutes but we weren’t able to find a third goal."
There is no confirmed plan for the Mid West Counties Female League although a shortened league format is being considered.
Bartestree Women will face Tupsley this weekend in the second County Cup quarter-final.
