LEDBURY V BROMYARD

A KEENLY anticipated local derby did not disappoint as Ledbury beat Bromyard 25-18.

Within minutes, the hosts went ahead as a result of an interception try scored by Bromyard’s Tom Watkins, but the conversion kick was wide of the mark.

Bromyard put pressure on Ledbury before the break and William Teece increased their lead to 12-0 at the break.

Ledbury responded and Ben Stevens pulled a try back before the visitors capitalised on a yellow card and Luke Clarke scored Ledbury’s second try and his side 14-12 ahead at half-time.

James Rayfield added a penalty after the break to further their lead before Bromyard responded with a kick.

Further play saw Bromyard offside so the scrum enabled the forwards to drive again, Dan Walters finishing the score but only five points this time increasing the lead to 15-22 before the sides exchanged penalty kicks.

LUCTONIANS

A very young Luctonians side suffered a narrow 11-7 defeat at home to Chester.

The game started brightly and Chester took the lead when Liam Reeve kicked from wide following Lucs infringements around the loose after 9 minutes.

From another infringement on 28 minutes that Chester increased their lead to six points when Reeve knocked over his second penalty.

Lucs who were now playing with a strong wind at their backs could not make any headway and it was no surprise when Chester, who were played some excellent phase rugby at this point, scored which their dominance deserved, on 55 minutes when Kyle Joseph threaded himself through a mass of bodies to touch down to give them a 11-point advantage.

This appeared to spur Luctonians into action, and lead by the excellent Aiden Cheshire, they kept Chester on the back foot until the dying moments when Cheshire drove through tackles from 5metres out to touch down, with Owen Randall drop kicking the extras to gain the home side a losing bonus point.

HOCKEY

In hockey Nina Emery struck twice as Leominster Ladies beat Westberries 2-1.

Leominster were 1-0 down at half-time but Emery slotted home with 20 mins left to equalise.

Leominster pressurised Westberries hugely in the last few minutes and were awarded a penalty corner seconds before the final whistle went.

Although the Leominster shot on goal was not successful, a penalty flick was awarded against Westberries.

Emery stepped up for the flick and netted the winner.
