HEREFORD FC chairman Jon Hale says the club's board are working to get a budget set for next season to allow manger Josh Gowling to start agreeing terms with players.

Gowling has said in previous weeks that now is the time to start talking to players about next season.

Hale confirmed club's board are currently setting a budget for next season.

"It's really important that we make some plans now," said Hale talking to the club's website.

"It has been a difficult landscape as crowds have been up and down especially earlier in the season.

"We've still got Covid issues, that hasn't gone away yet. But at the same time we're dead keen to set down some figures for Josh (Gowling).

"He is very keen to get planning and to get players under contracts.

"We fully understand that and want to support him in that. As he's said himself we don't want to get to the summer and have to re-build again.

"We've got a very good core of a squad here that's pushing for the play-offs.

"If we don't make it this season then next season will be the one.

"It's really important we get on with that process and that's exactly what we plan to do.

"And get a budget fixed, the best we can, it is difficult. We will get a budget sorted, Josh (Gowling) can start his planning and hopefully have some of them players tied down and then he can look to the ones he wants to bring in for next season.

"We're pretty excited in the direction that we're going and the board need to back that up.

"Josh (Gowling) needs to back that up in terms of who he can persuade to stay here.

"We're all working off the same hymn sheet and that's the main thing."
