WESTFIELDS manager Phil Glover says he will have to look to bring players in from outside Herefordshire to build a title challenging side next season.
Fields finished seventh last season and will again face tough opposition for promotion against the likes of third placed side Corsham Town and fourth placed Worcester Raiders.
Cinderford, Highworth Town, Slimbridge, Pershore Town and Worcester City have joined the league this season, while city rivals Hereford Pegasus and Hereford Lads Club will also be bidding for local bragging rights.
“There are three positions which we think that we need, everybody keeps telling me as well which is fine as it’s their opinion,” said Westfields manager Phil Glover.
“I agree with 99 per cent of it. But those positions aren’t in the county. To get players in from outside the county things have got to happen off the field to make that happen.
“It’s not easy attracting players, hence why Hereford FC train in Birmingham, obviously a different pool of players they are picking from, but it’s still a very difficult area to get players to travel too.
“There are one or two playing elsewhere at Lads Club and Pegasus that we think could come in and do a job for us, but if we’re talking about winning leagues, which we want to talk about then we don’t believe that it is there.
“I think we’ve got the best in the county bar one or two. The title winning players are from outside the county, I know where they are and who they are, but it’s a case of getting them and going for it.
“I think the Cribbs and Corshams who have done well this season have got physical players who can score goals from higher leagues. There is only one reason they can get them players which we all know.
“I think we know what we need, but it’s about sitting down with the club and going down the same path and doing it.”
A ‘transitional season’ in the league saw Westfields off the pace of the promoted sides Cribbs and Malvern Town.
However, Fields did finish the season on a high with a 3-1 HFA County Challenge Cup final win against Hereford Pegasus.
“It’s been a bit of a transition season, which I don’t like to say but looking in and analysing it I think we had 10 new players coming into the side," added Glover.
“We knew we had to change and get the commitment side of thing sorted, which we’ve got. If you ask any member of the squad on our day we’re as good a side as anyone in the league, but individual mistakes has cost us dearly this season.”
Westfields have confirmed home pre-season matches against Alvechurch (July 15 1pm); Hereford Pegasus for the Denis Hartland Trophy (July 20, 7.30pm); Boldmere St Michaels (July 22 3pm); Stourport Swifts (July 27, 7.45pm)
