Herefordshire’s men will be hoping for better fortune with the weather when they entertain Berkshire in their penultimate NCCA Western Division 1 three-day clash at Eastnor starting on Sunday.
The county side’s first championship match with Oxfordshire ended in a rain-affected draw while the second, against Cheshire at Alderley Edge, was washed out without a ball bowled.
Berkshire have fared a little better and the abandonment of last weekend’s clash with Cheshire, when yet another deluge cost them the final day, means that all three of their games have been drawn.
Herefordshire make one change from the side scheduled to face Cheshire. Skipper Matt Pardoe is not available and will also miss the final match against Devon at Sidmouth starting on August 20.
He is replaced in the side by Ombersley’s Taylor Cornall who has played a handful of first-class games for Worcestershire.
Cornall, as well as batting high in the order, will also take over Pardoe’s role in the side as left-arm spinner where he will have support from Ben Chapman-Lilley’s off-spin.
Nick Hammond will captain the three-day side for the first time in Pardoe’s absence. Herefordshire cricket followers will have their first chance to run the rule over young opener Rehaan Edavalath.
The Barnards Green player, who also made his first-class debut for Worcestershire against Derbyshire earlier in the season, had been due to make his county bow at Alderley Edge.
Play at Eastnor is due to get under way at 11am.
Herefordshire: Nick Hammond, Roshan Venkataraman, Luke Powell, Olly Rogoff, Olly Walker, Rehaan Edavalath, Sam Keeling-Wright, Taylor Cornall, James Rudge, Ben Chapman-Lilley, Henry Cullen. Twelfth man: Harry Sockett
