WESTFIELDS got sweet revenge for their FA Cup exit days earlier by securing a valuable 2-1 victory at Worcester City.
Despite Fields being reduced to 10 men Steven Davies secured all the points in the Hellenic Premier tie with a 94th minute effort.
Just days earlier Phil Glover’s side bowed out of the FA Cup after Worcester grabbed a 2-1 win with an injury time cracker to put them through into the first round qualifying.
Two days later and Worcester were looking to complete a league and cup double when Kirk Layton put the hosts ahead from a corner moments before the half-time whistle.
However, three minute after the break Ollie Barnes fired the visitors level. Fields had to play the last 24 minutes with 10 men when Adam Wakley was shown a straight red card moments after coming on as a substitute.
Goalkeeper Jack Oxenham made some fine saves to keep the tie level before he was rewarded by Davies’ late winner.
Elsewhere, Hereford Lads Club played out a 0-0 draw with Cinderford as they continue their good start to the season.
Hereford Pegasus were also reduced to 10 men as they suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Lydney Town – after Cawley Cox had put them ahead.
Westfields had led at the break in their FA Cup tie against Worcester City on Saturday, when Joel Edwards’ header gave them a 14th minute lead.
On two occasions before the interval Phil Glover’s side had chances to increase the lead but shots from Harrison Summers and Dan Stoneman were both saved on the line by Worcester defenders.
After the break the visitors came more into the game and drew level in the 54th minute through Dylan Hart with a looping header.
Both sides gave everything for a winner with Summers have his shot tipped over the bar by the Worcester keeper.
However, with the minutes ticking away Layton fired homed a dramatic injury time winner with a shot from just outside the penalty area.
This Saturday Westfields travel in the FA Vase to Nuneaton Griff for a First Round Tie before entertaining near neighbours Hereford Lads Club in a Hellenic League local derby on Monday, kick-off 3pm.
