WESTFIELDS bounced back from a run of four league defeats with a 3-2 home win over Thornbury Town at allpay.park.
Before the game a minute of silence was held to Joe Rawle, who was a respected and much-loved member of the coaching team at Westfields for six years.
Fields were ravaged by injuries and suspensions and gave debuts to a number of Development teenagers who all worked hard to get the three points.
Despite their troubles Westfields opened the scoring in the 32nd minute when young left-back Sean Powell raced forward and unleashed his effort into the roof of the net.
Moments later it was 2-0 to Westfields as man of the match Dan Stoneman got clear on the left flank and fired home.
It then got better as pacey winger Harrison Summers raced down the right flank and crossed for teenager Sam Griffiths to head home a third goal.
Right on half-time Thornbury pulled a goal back when a fierce right wing cross was headed into his own goal by skipper Kane Kahaki to make it 3-1.
Westfields had to defend for long periods of the second half and Matt Apperley made two smart saves.
Thornbury then pulled a goal back when Joe McLaughlin headed in a right wing corner to set up a tense last 20 minutes as the visitors went all out for an equaliser.
However, the hosts responded with a stubborn defensive display in which Cam Davies and Kahaki were on form.
Fields now have a busy week on the road as they travel to Cinderford Town on Tuesday and then to Wantage Town on Saturday both in the Hellenic League Premier Division
