HEREFORD Pegasus maintained their Hellenic Premier play-off push with a 3-1 victory against Highworth Town thanks to a brace from Nathan Chowns-Higgs.
In strong blustery conditions Pegasus broke the deadlock in the 14th minute when Jordan Williamson was fouled just outside the corner of the penalty area.
The resulting Jamie Price free-kick was pushed clear by goalkeeper Connor Johns and Chowns-Higgs was well placed to poke the ball into the net.
Town were looking dangerous as expected and a whipped Rhys Wells cross was met by Liam Haines who headed the ball towards goal.
However, Carlos Moreira made a great one-handed save and was rightly dismissed.
Leading goal scorer Josh Davis stepped up to the penalty spot and had his effort brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Matt Gwynne.
Pegasus doubled their lead in first half stoppage time when a deflected cross from Lewis Fletcher was deflected to Chowns-Higgs who showing a striker’s instinct was able at full stretch to guide the ball home.
Two minutes after the restart Jordan Williamson cut inside before curling the ball into the top corner to make it 3-0.
The visitors were using the extra man to their advantage and reduced the deficit in the 56th minute when Sol Pryce curled a shot into the goal.
Highworth continued pushing forward in search of goals to salvage a point but the home defence held firm and Gwynne made crucial saves.
On Saturday Pegasus travel to Mangotsfield United, whom they beat at the KGD Stadium earlier in the season.
