EWYAS Harold kicked-off their HES Plumbing and Electrical Herefordshire FA Veterans League campaign in style on Sunday morning by defeating local rivals Hay St Mary's 15-1 at the SSAFA County Ground.

Following a relatively even opening quarter to both team's opening game of the campaign, it was Harold who broke the deadlock after 22 minutes and doubled their advantage three minutes later, before adding a third goal four minutes prior to the interval.

Taking a break from the Westminster campaign trail, Joe Emmett pulled a goal back for Hay St Mary's, but it proved nothing more than a consolation for the Saints in the grand scheme of things.

The villagers from south Herefordshire were in no mood to settle on their two-goal advantage as they proved to be in a rampant mood by netting 12 further goals during the second-half and record an emphatic victory in their first outing of the Veterans League season.

Eight of the goals arrived in the final 16 minutes of this derby encounter as the Saints tired and struggled to keep hold of the ball against their fitter derby rivals.

Hay St Mary's will be looking to bounce back from this humbling result when they face Belmont Wanderers at the SSAFA County Ground on Sunday (1pm) and Ewyas Harold will look to build on this result when they meet Fownhope later on the same day at 3pm.

Earlier in the day (10am) it’s the turn of Hereford Pegasus FC Veterans to open their season against Wellington Vets.

The league campaign opened earlier this month when Wellington set their stall out with a 6-0 win against Hinton Veterans.

Hinton were back in action this weekend and recorded their first win of the season with a 3-1 score-line against Holme Lacy Veterans.
