A TEENAGE golfer who captains a Herefordshire club won a competition against the county’s top juniors by six shots.
Ross Golf Club's Juniors’ captain 17 year-old Leo Powell clinched an emphatic victory at the Gloucestershire Golfing Union's annual under-18 Boys’ Championship.
Held at Knowle Golf Club in Bristol some 54 top Juniors from across the county on the start-sheet.
Powell delivered two near perfect rounds of 18 holes medal play resulting in him being declared Boys Champion and finishing an impressive six shots ahead of his nearest rivals.
The youngster led the event from start to finish after his gross one-under par 69 opening round, which included four birdies was followed up by six birdies in his afternoon gross 71 score so that his combined gross 140 medal total.
Powell’s win means that he will represent the County in the England Golf Champion of Champions event at Woodhall Spa GC in September.
It has been an exciting year for Powell as in May he defended his title of being the Chipping Sodbury GC U18 Junior Open Champion and on the following day won the Knowle GC U18 Junior Open to record back to back victories.

“This latest win is well deserved, which Leo will put down to good old hard work and determination to succeed at the highest level”
Powell’s successes will also have revived memories of the day in 2013 when his elder brother Niall received the Glos Golfing Union's under 16 Boys Champion Trophy with Niall currently progressing his professional career on the Clutch Pro-Tour.
