BURGHILL, Tillington and Weobley moved away from the Worcestershire County League Division One relegation zone by clinching a 53-run victory against Droitwich Spa.

On an overcast day it was no surprise that Burghill were asked to bat and Tyler Garrard lost an early wicket.

However, Jack Stockdale (29) and teenager Theo Darke (24) carefully took the score to 63, before both fell in quick succession.

Another quick wicket, and the Burgs were in a spot of bother at 76-4.

Captain Barney Morgan and Sabil Sarmad (28) started the repair work. Together they constructed a cautious 87 run partnership, taking the score to 163 before Sarmad perished while trying to increase the run rate.

With wickets in hand, it was time to cut loose in the last 10 overs.

At this juncture, Morgan set about entertaining the home supporters, with an array of shots to all parts of the ground.

He raced to his century in 87 balls with 13 fours and 4 sixes. Mohammed Hassan (29 not out) joined the party, with a quick fire cameo.

In total 102 runs were scored in the last 10 overs and after 50 overs the hosts finished on 245-6, an astonishing recovery from 76-4 at drinks.

Coming into the match, Droitwich were second in the table and had one eye on promotion.

The visitors started their chase confident they could score the required runs for the win.

Opening quicks Reece Thomas (2-57) and John Lewis (1-37) made early inroads into the top order. However, at 98-3 the game was evenly poised.

Mohammed Hassan and Ranjit William replaced Thomas and Lewis in the bowling attack and changed the game for the Burgs.

The scoring was being stifled and wickets kept falling. The pivotal moment came when Max Young was smartly caught by Stockdale in the slips, for 40 off William.

Despite Burghill losing their way towards the end Hassan bowled his best spell of the season, with figures of 4-13 off 12.4 overs to seal the win in the 48th over.

Bartestree & Lugwardine firsts hosted Worcester, knowing that it would be a tough game against the second-top team which included their prolific scoring overseas player.

A commanding partnership of 99 between Ryan Trattell (52) and Ed Milner (36) looked to have set up the host’s innings.

However, 167-3 rapidly turned into 167-8 as Bartestree’s innings crumbled, in a deadly spell for Worcester bowler Luke Deeprose (6-9).

Worcester cruised home on 182-6 off 38.1 overs with Owen Beynon (2-8) the best Bartestree bowler.

In the Premier Division Brockhampton were beaten by 45 runs at Lye and Bromyard suffered a losing draw at Worcester Nomads.
