FIRST half goals from Andy William and Cosmos Matwasa were enough for Hereford to record a 2-1 victory at Swindon Supermarine.

Following their victory against West Brom under-21s on Saturday the Bulls started on the front foot and on five minutes Andy Williams had a dipping effort which dropped onto the crossbar.

Former Football League striker Willams then turned provider crossing for defender Matt Preston but his effort was sent into the side-netting.

Hereford were ahead on the 19th minute when Babos did well to find Williams who turned inside the box before firing low and beyond the goalkeeper.

Just seven minutes later the Bulls doubled their advantage with Williams finding space before crossing for Cosmos Matwasa to steer his volley home at the back post.

Williams again looked dangerous early in the second half intercepting a defensive pass across box well intercepting before hitting his effort over the crossbar

Also causing the hosts problems was Watwasa who crossed for Williams who tried an overhead kick before the ball fell for Rooney to fire over.

Marine’s best spell of play came from the 55th minute mark when a quick break resulted in Dave Simms-Burgess having an opportunity, but the Bulls' trialist goalkeeper was quickly down at his feet to save.

Minutes later Sims-Burgess was causing more trouble and his effort across goal rattled off the post before Olly Mayhew's rebound from an off-side position was blocked.

Paul Caddis used to match to test a range of trialists, including one up front, who beat his man before cutting inside only for his deflected effort to be comfortably saved.

Marine pulled a goal back 10 minutes from time when a cross into Hereford’s crowded box found Michael Fernandes who prodded the ball home.

Swindon were also testing trialists and one sent an over-headed kick over the crossbar as they fell to a single-goal defeat.

Hereford host Birmingham City under-21s at Edgar Street on Saturday (3pm) in their fourth pre-season game.

Assistant manager Rooney could feature again after having major involvements in both friendlies against West Brom under-21s and Swindon Supermarine.

“In training I play everywhere centre-back, right-back, left-back the other night,” said Rooney after filling in on the wing.

“If I’m playing I’ll give all I can. Ideally we’ve three forwards ahead of me who are going to bang in goals every week so I don’t need to step on.

“But if I’m out there my job as a player is to push them. As a player I want to score as many goals as possible and be the best striker on the pitch so the lads have to push themselves.

“They know they can’t just get into the team easily.”
