HEREFORD chairman Chris Ammonds has sent a rallying call out to fans ahead of their final pre-season match.

The Bulls take on League Two side Newport County on Saturday and Ammonds says that any profits made could go into the manager’s playing budget.

“We are always looking at ways to offer more support to Paul (Caddis) and his staff and a sizeable crowd for our final pre-season friendly against Newport County on Saturday will potentially allow us to add to the playing budget before the start of the season,” said Ammonds to the club’s website.

“Saturday’s match is also Newport’s final pre-season game before their League Two campaign kicks off and therefore the game promises to be a very competitive one with both teams looking to put the finishing touches to their planning before the real action starts.

“At the club we are incredibly grateful for the support we have received during the close season, with Squad Builder donations at record levels, season tickets selling well and the new membership scheme proving popular.

“A decent attendance on Saturday would be the icing on the cake in terms of the close season support from our fantastic fans and would really put us in a good place as we look ahead to what we all hope will be an exciting season following the positive progress made in our first season under Paul’s stewardship.”

Meanwhile, Caddis is expecting his side to treat their final friendly as a competitive league game a week before the National League North commences.

I like pre-season games to be played at a tempo and I want to change the mentality of the football club that it’s got to match a league game,” said Caddis.

“We’re hoping next week (against Newport) to get supporters through the door and see that we’re trying to do something positive this year.”
