A CENTURY for Barney Morgan set the tone as Burghill, Tillington and Weobley recorded a convincing 198-run victory against rivals Bartestree & Lugwardine.

However, Morgan’s accomplishments were match by John ‘JD’ Lewis and Reece Thomas taking five wickets each with the ball.

After winning the toss in overcast conditions captain Morgan elected to bat and recorded his second century in as many matches.

Like the hundred against Droitwich Spa, his innings was littered with exquisite cover drives, lofted pulls, and delicate cuts.  

His 101 came up in 89 balls with 12 fours and 4 sixes.  

However, the skippper was furious with himself for getting out soon after his ton as with 12 overs remaining a big hundred was on the cards.  

Teenager AJ Morris gave solid support with a 54 ball half century. He found it difficult to score at the start of his innings taking 19 balls for two.  

However, once he got going Morris played some glorious shots and accelerated the scoring.

Another 17-year-old, Theo Darke chipped in with 39 but was also disappointed with his dismissal after patting a full toss back to the bowler when he was well set.

Bartestree bowler Adam Davies provided some resistance as he took five wickets for 81 runs as Burghill finished on 296-9 off their 50 overs.

Burghill were devastating with the ball and their opening quicks, Reece Thomas and John ‘JD’ Lewis bowled unchanged and took five wickets apiece.

Thomas was devastating in his opening burst, ripping the heart out of the top order.

At 21-4, Bartestree were teetering and soon after, Captain Ryan Trattell edged to slip.

A masterclass in the act of juggling ensued but unfortunately for the Burgs, the catch was eventually shelled.

At the other end, JD Lewis was nagging away with his line and length and gentle swing. Wickets kept falling at regular intervals and there was no way back for Bartestree.

Trattell continued to play positively but once he was out for 42, Bartestree’s innings soon ended for 98, to give the Burgs a 198-run win.

Lewis bagged five for 37 from 11 overs and Thomas five for 50 from 12 overs.

Two five wicket hauls in the same innings has never achieved before by Burghill, in what was a ruthless bowling display from the seamers.

The result leaves Burghill in eighth position in the Worcestershire County League Division One but edged them closer to the mid-table teams and 55 points clear of the drop zone.

In the Premier Division, Brockhampton recorded a convincing seven-wicket victory against Worcester Nomads.

Despite Worcester opener Dominic Badger hitting a century off 150 balls the visitors were restricted to 197-5.

In response Tom Skerrett hit 121 off 125 balls as Brockhampton reached their target on 199-3 off 36.1 overs.
