HEREFORD face a nervous wait to find out the true extent to the injury of marksman Jason Cowley.

The striker scored a brace against Stourbridge on Thursday night. However, he was taken down by a cynical foul at Halesowen on Saturday and had to be taken off injured.

"It's a terrible tackle, there's no two ways about it," said Hereford boss Paul Caddis after the 2-2 draw.

"His ankle is the size of my thigh, his ankle is huge. We'll have to access it, it doesn't look good, it's nasty.

"I get frustrated, but I’m probably a bit of the old school. I want to play pre-season games like proper games.”

Caddis was also left frustrated by some inconsistent refereeing as the player who fouled Cowley went unpunished.

However, Matt Preston later saw red for a foul as a last defender and Lewis Hudson was also booked.

"He's admitted that there were loads of yellow cards in the game, so just do it properly,” added Caddis.

"I didn't like the tackle (on Cowley), I thought it was a bit nasty. We’ll just have to assess it, the worrying thing was that the referee didn't see it.”

With Cowley potentially facing a spell on the sidelines there will be race back to fitness for striker Montel Gibson.

The newly signed striker this summer is yet to feature for the Bulls and was an unused substitute against Halesowen Town.

“He’s not trained, we just put him on the bench,” added Caddis.

“If the game had panned out and slowed right down at still 2-0 with five or six minutes to go. I like putting players on the pitch, it’s mentally.

“When they’ve been out for a few weeks even if it’s for 30 seconds. It’s mentally that they’ve been on the pitch.

“Montel will train on Tuesday, we’re hopefully (Aaron) Skinner will train on Tuesday too, that’s really good news.

“We’re still a bit short in strength and depth so I need to look at getting some more bodies in.

“I like having two strikers and in the modern day it’s very tough to play 4-4-2. You get overrun in the middle of the pitch.

“We’re quite comfortable, we create a lot of chances and score a lot of goals. We’ve never been really tested through our shape to date so we’re pleased with that.

“It’s more individual errors. If we can get two strikers on the pitch then we will.”

Caddis played two trialists against Stourbridge and a third against Halesowen Town.

“We’ll make a decision Tuesday,” added Caddis. “We’re still short but we’ll take our time and make sure we get the right people in.”
