DANIEL Stoneman scored an 82nd minute as Westfields progressed into the the preliminary round of the FA Cup with a pulsating 1-0 home win over visiting Daventry Town.
During an end to end first half Fields goalkeeper Kerion Blackburn twice made smart saves to prevent the visitors taking the lead.
After the break Westfields came more into the game and had two opportunities to break the deadlock.
Firstly Mason Godsall saw a shot brilliantly saved by the Daventry keeper then Westfields striker Ben Brookes headed wide when well place from a Stoneman cross.
Eight minutes from time and the game heading for a replay, man of the match Cameron Davies played a glorious ball out to Stoneman on the left flank.
The Fields winger took the ball in his stride beat his full-back and fired a low shot across the keeper into the far corner of the net.
Back came the visitors and Westfields’ defence stood strong with Cam Davies and Brandon Jennings outstanding at the back.
Westfields win gives them a home tie on Saturday, August 17 against the winners of Tuesday’s cup replay between Evesham United and Newcastle Town.
Hereford Pegasus travelled to the Langland Stadium as underdogs in the extra-qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup against Malvern Town.
Peggy gave a good account of themselves against the higher graded opposition and gave debuts to two players who played for Worcester based teams last season, Kirk Layton and Isaac Cooper, from City and Raiders respectively.
Malvern are a higher graded team however, for the first twenty five minutes, there was little to choose between the two sides.
The hosts gradually gained the ascendancy scoring two goals through Harry Clarke in a five-minute spell at the end of the first period.
Pegasus contained the hosts but, rarely threatened in the first half, probable showing the hosts too much respect.
The first goal in the second half would determine the remainder of the game.
Ten minutes after the restart Pegasus’ skipper Lewis Fletcher headed home at the far post.
Malvern were unable to show their higher league status however, they just about deserved the win although, Harry Pitman was unable find the target when well positioned in the final ten minutes.
Malvern chose central defender Charlie Johnson as the player of the match, which was an indication of how close the game was.
Days earlier Pegasus started their Hellenic Premier campaign with a 2-1 victory against Lydney Town after first half goals from Harry Pitman and Sam Rawlings gave their side an away victory.
Westfields picked up a good away point at newly promoted Hartpury College when they produced a hard working 0-0 draw.
Wellington started their Hellenic Division One campaign with a 3-2 defeat against Bewdley Town.
An own goal and late Brad Phillips strike brought Welly back from three goals down to a narrow defeat.
