A HEREFORD youngster has been crowned Shropshire Fell Running Champion after triumphing from a series of races.
The Shropshire Fell Series comprised of eight fell races over five months which tested competitors over varied and difficult terrain.
Races took place on Caradoc, The Wrekin, Batch Bash, Rodney’s Pillar, Pontesbury, Stiperstones, Middletown Hill and Ragleth.
The races were all tough with steep gradients and running conditions were varied with the athletes competing in heavy rain and high winds at some of the earlier races and in 29c heat at one of the July events.
The series culminated earlier this month, when Hereford and County athletes Fred Tyler, Milo Williams and Saffi Reid took on the last race at Ragleth.
Tyler finished runner-up in the under-15 boys category, Williams was fifth under-13 boy and Reid won the under-13 girls category.
The final end of Shropshire Fell Series results were announced over the weekend with Reid taking the overall victory in the under-13 girls’ category.
Alongside the Shropshire Fell Series, several Hereford and County athletes have been running in the South Wales Fell Series with further achievements at the Llanthony Fell earlier this month.
Fred Tyler finished third in the under-15 boys’, Milo Williams finished runner-up in the under-13 boys’, Harrison Salkeld was third under-11 boy and Reid once again won the under-13 girls’ category.
The Herefordshire County Track Championship over 5,000 metres was recently held when youngster Henry White took victory.
This followed the Jon Ward five-kilometre race which was this year held on the new Hereford Cycle Track.
Hereford Couriers runner Kimberley Langford won the women’s event in a time of 19 minutes and 24 seconds.
Second woman was Danielle Phillips (Les Croupiers Running Club) and Christina Plant (Hereford Couriers) was third.
Luke Mason (Hereford Couriers) won the men’s event ahead of team-mate Will Morris and Joshua Milne was third.
