HELEN Palmer was crowned Ross-on-Wye Golf Club Ladies Champion for the sixth time, beating Sally Fycun in an incredibly close fought match on the 35th Hole.

Palmer has been a member of Ross on Wye Golf Club for 20 years having taken up golf 28 years ago.

She has represented the club in County Competitions on numerous occasions and has been a regular member of the first team playing in the Cotswold and Gloucestershire Alliance Scratch matches. 

Palmer has an impressive history in the annual summer knockout competitions, having played in the Ladies Championship eight times and winning on six of those occasions.

She has also been the only woman in the club to win the Hospital Cup mixed competition in 2022.

The Ladies 18 hole Summer knockout was won by Ruth Kirchmeier in another very closely fought match, winning on the 18th hole against Allison Charles.

Jose Wilson was the winner of the Ladies Bronze Scratch Cup 5 and 3 against Sally Lawrence.

The 2024 Huggett Putter champion was Lois Price who narrowly beat Graeme Forrester.  

Other worthy winners of trophy competitions played throughout the year were: Martha Norton won the H and J Salver with Helen Shaw in April; Nadia Stirling won the Quaich Cup for the prestigious 36 hole Nett Championship Competition played over two days and the Ladies Flag competition; Jenny Reeve-Tucker won the 9 hole Rosie Price championship trophy; Mary Smith won the Ladies Medal Salver; Chris Morris won the QEII Trophy; Sally Fycun won the Gordon Blake Cup in the July Medal; Sophie Price won the Rose Bowl in the May Medal; Allison Charles won the Weston Shield in the April medal; Lorraine Fenner won the Needham Cup in the June Medal; June Savidge won the Bronze Cup; Kerry Welding won the prestigious Mary Beavis Cup (aggregate of two rounds) in the August Medal; Hannah Keir won the Jean Reynolds Trophy for the prestigious 36 hole Gross Championship Competition played over two days; Ros Ashton won the Centenary Cup for the Par/Bogey Competition. 

The Blues and Greens Stableford was played by 15 pairs of ladies over the front nine holes of the Ross course recently.

Elizabeth Cliffe and Maureen Turner won with 20 points on countback from Nesta Hirst and Joyce Mackley.

The September Medal was played by 23 ladies. The winner was Allison Charles with a nett score of 66 on countback from Bridget Hirams. The best gross score was Sally Fycun with 82.

The Front 9 hole Medal competition was played by 18 ladies and was won by Maureen Turner with a nett score of 30 on countback from Elizabeth Cliffe and Ros Ashton. The best gross score was Ros Ashton with 39.

A Florida Scramble Competition was played by 33 ladies. It was won by Sue Johnson, Ruth Pimlow and Jackie Wheatstone with 67. In second place was Marie-anne Belton, Allison Charles and Joan Punnett with 70, closely followed by Hannah Keir, Victoria Northcott and Louis Price with 71.
