HEREFORD ‘jumped’ at the chance of signing striker Ty Deacon on a short-term deal.

The 26-year-old has been left surplus to requirements at parent club Tamworth, after helping them to the National League North title last season.

Deacon, from Aylesbury, previously played for Rushden and Diamond where he scored 11 times in 16 appearances.

He went on to play for Kettering before moving to Tamworth, where he scored five times from 17 starts last season.

“Ty is a player we’ve kept track of since his promotion to the National League last season having won National League North with Tamworth,” said Caddis to the club’s website.

“The opportunity to bring Ty in was unexpected and one we jumped on when it became a possibility. He is a real physical hard-working player and will add to our front line where we have been short since the departure of Montel Gibson.

“We look forward to working with Ty and are delighted to add him to our group.”

Deacon came from on the bench in the 62nd minute and played his role defensively in a 0-0 draw at Alfreton before seeing a late effort saved.

Caddis said that the striker had not trained with the side prior to Saturday’s match.

“Ty Deakin literally met the boys at pick up time, 11.30am, at the services today,” he added.

“We didn’t get him (the signing) over the line until Friday. I thought he came on and you can see his physic, he’s not a huge player but he’s wide in terms of that he’s physical.

“He held the ball up well and was brilliant in the box defending. We’re really looking forward to working with him in the next month and then we’ll take it from there.”
