WESTFIELDS returned to winning ways, after a run of three defeats in the Hellenic League Premier Division, when they comfortably beat visiting Cirencester Town 4-1 at allpay.park on Saturday.
Fields included new signing Zac Powell from Bromsgrove Sporting and gave a much improved display to sweep aside a visiting Gloucestershire side.

After a strong opening 20 minutes when the hosts failed the best of their chances skipper Brandon Jennings headed them in front from a Dan Stoneman cross.

The visitors came back into the game and drew level when Harrison Reeves capitalised on a fumble by Westfields keeper Kerion Blackburn to level the scores.

However, Fields went back into the lead when Archie Muirhead was brought down on the edge of the penalty area and Sam Hunt smashed home the free kick to restore the hosts’ lead.

Then on the stroke of half-time leading goal scorer Cawley Cox netted with a fine finish after he chased a long through ball and finished in style to give Westfields a 3-1 interval lead.

After the break Fields dominated long periods of the game but Ronnie Newbury in the Cirencester goal kept out efforts from Cox and Stoneman.

The hosts put the issue beyond doubt when Hunt chased a back pass to visiting keeper Newbury and when the keeper miss-kicked the Fields man had an easy chance to score his second goal of the game and conclude a commanding 4-1 home win and a valuable three points in front of 156 home crowd.

Meanwhile, Hereford Pegasus suffered a 1-0 defeat on Saturday at the hands of Mangotsfield United, with Michael Barry netting a 56th minute winner.

Westfields were back in action on Tuesday night when Cawley Cox scored a late equaliser to salvage a 1-1 draw against Longlevens AFC.

A wet surface and heavy rain at allpay.park made it hard for either side to gather momentum early in the tie.

However, Fields had the best chance of the early exchanges on 18 minutes with Cox finding Zac Powell whose effort was wide.

The hosts went even closer moments later with a long ball releasing Cox through on goal with the marksman rounding the goalkeeper before finding Ben Brookes who rattled the crossbar with his shot.

Fields continued to probe with a succession of corners before Dan Stoneman sent an effort wide.

However, it was Longlevens who finished the half strongly taking the lead and then forcing goalkeeper Shay Sterry into action.

Westfields looked for a second half response and Mason Godsall sent his effort over from inside the box.

Then in the final 10 minutes Fields rattled the crossbar twice as the football gods looked against them.

However, up stepped Cox to head home a Harrison Summers cross to rescue a draw.

Elsewhere on Tuesday night Wellington were beaten 6-0 to A49 rivals Ludlow FC in the Hellenic League Division One.

This weekend Westfields head to Corsham United and Pegasus are travelling to Roman Glass St George.
