ANDY WILLIAMS’ 92nd minute strike saw Hereford earn their first win in five league games at Buxton.

Ahkeem Rose had put the Bulls in front before Buxton equalised in controversial circumstances, with replays showing Connor Kirby’s header had not crossed the line when saved by Aaron Chapman.

Williams was on hand in stoppage time, though, to give Hereford a deserved three points after Yusifu Ceesay had sent an expertly guided header into his path.

The Bucks started brightly, with Ben Sault driving through the visitors’ midfield on 15 minutes before playing a one-two with Tom Elliot, but the No.14 was unable to get his shot off in time.

The away side were ahead less than three minutes later, however, when goalkeeper True Grant’s punch fell to Rose inside the box who fired into the bottom corner at the second time of asking.

However, controversy ensued in the 26th minute when the linesman deemed Kirby’s header, kept out at the near post by a fine Chapman save, had crossed the line, in spite of Hereford’s adamant protests to the contrary.

The Bulls looked to put the disappointment behind them on 28 minutes when a swift counter-attack saw Ceesay fire a low shot towards goal, but Grant was equal to his effort.

The home goalkeeper was in action again on the stroke of half-time when Lewis Hudson’s cross was headed goalwards by Rose but a fine one-handed save denied the former Hamilton striker.

The Bulls continued to push for a second goal after the break, with Rose sliding in Alex Babos 12 yards out from goal but the midfielder could only find the goalkeeper’s mid-drift.

Grant almost gifted Hereford the lead in the 86th minute when his pass out from the back found Rose but the shot stopper recovered to tip the subsequent effort over the bar.

With two minutes of normal time remaining, Williams was found at the back post by a searching Hudson cross but he was unable to direct his header goalwards.

The 92nd minute, however, saw Williams give his side the lead after Ceesay’s guided header landed into the path of the striker who proceeded to fire in from close range to secure all three points.

The Bulls are back on the road twice next week, visiting Curzon Ashton on Saturday and then Warrington on Tuesday night.
