WESTFIELDS and promotion hopefuls Mangotsfield United fought out a goalless draw at allpay.park on Saturday.
Fifth placed Mangotsfield put up a stubborn defence as Westfields did not have enough to take a first half lead
In the second half it was a superb goalkeeping display by Fields custodian Kerion Blackburn who made a string of fine saves to prevent the visitors taking all the points as they began to open up the home rearguard and cause problems from corner kicks .
In the first half Westfields had the better openings but both Ben Brookes and Zac Powell failed to capitalise on good opportunities while skipper Brandon Jennings sent a free kick over the bar.
After the break Blackburn saved brilliantly at the foot of the post then the Fields keeper saved low on the goal line as Mangotsfield seemed certain to break the deadlock.
As the game swung from end to end both sides looked to break the deadlock and secure the three vital points, but the stalemate continued as Fields gained a home point from a hard working performance and extended their unbeaten league run to four games.
Hereford Pegasus dropped to 14th in the Hellenic Premier following a 4-0 defeat at Royal Wootton Bassett.
The play-off chasing Bassett’s goals came courtesy of Alfie Presley, Finlay Hopkins, Thomas Ouldridge and Jack Hobson-McVeigh.
On Saturday, Fields travel to Roman Glass St George and Pegasus are also on the road at Fairford Town.
